The first settlement on the Island was from Spain. In the early 1800s, the nation came under British rule. This led to an influx of families from the many British colonies. It took until 1962 for the nation to gain independence from the United Kingdom. Income from oil exports have propelled the nation to be one of the richest by GDP in the Americas. The nation is a tourist hotspot, frequently seeing visitors from all over the world, especially Americans.

There is a lot to do in Trinidad & Tobago. Maracas is a usual tourist stop-off point. Maracas Bay hosts sun-seekers from around the world, and is about an hour away from the capital city.
