18 Times Tracy Beaker Summed Up Your Life At University

All millennial’s favourite show growing up was ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’. Growing up was tough, but for thirty minutes once a week, we would rejoice as we caught up with Tracy and the gang. Throughout the five series, Tracy went from an unruly, adolescent lout to, err, well we enjoyed it anyway. Yet as unbelievable as it may seem, our life at University closely resembles Tracy’s life at the Dumping Ground. While we don’t tell anyone to ‘bog off’ these days, there have been many times where we relate to Tracy Beaker. So sit back and enjoy this great Beaker-themed post.

Beaker and some of the gang

1. When The Going Gets Tough…

University may give you some amazing moments, but there are some tough times too. And sadly, we’re all partial to a little bit of dramatisation now and then. As Tracy correctly suggests here, University can be a stressful and agonising experience. Yet it doesn’t take much for us to make statements like these, as our friends quickly realise.

2. The Joys of the Student Loan

One of the high points of your University experience is when you get that little innocent text message on your phone from the Student Loans Company. It opens up many doors for you – spending sprees in town, multiple trips to eat out and more. As Tracy shows here, it can be exciting. And even Jackie looks excited about the possibilities.

3. Fresher’s Week

For the first time in your life, you will have total freedom – resulting in a chaotic fresher’s week. Here, you’ll see deals you never thought were possible, with £1 shots proving the highlight. Your facial expression when you see this for the first time closely resembles Tracy’s face above. Fresher’s week turns out to be a great week.

4. However…

The version of you that makes it to pre-drinks however is totally different to 3am you. You will enter the club confidently, and perhaps you’ve even made a pact with yourself not to embarrass yourself. But, as Tracy proved when she put Adele’s make-up on, a tiger simply doesn’t change its stripes.

5. The Consequences

For every night out, you will deal with the consequences of your behaviour the next day. Your kind-hearted flatmate will come to check on you, but your head will be hurting so much, that you will just want the peace and quiet. As our beloved Tracy did. Eventually fresher’s week comes to an end, and you’ll settle in to something that partly resembles a normal University life.

6. Coping with the Stresses of University Life

When the essays and various other assignments are thrown at you, your stress levels can rise. Then at this point, suddenly there are an abundance of people who start to annoy you. You regularly take your anger out on them – perhaps you do after all say ‘bog off’ to them. Maybe you even call them a ‘weed’. Poor Peter… he only wanted to be Tracy’s friend.

7. When Your Friend’s Birthday Rolls Round

Yet something that will get you through the tough times is the thought of your friend’s upcoming Birthday. Yet you quickly will learn that your idea of fun isn’t matched by your friend. Tracy and Cam had their differences. But their strong bond saw them eventually ride off into the sunset together, even though Tracy did burn down Cam’s house… The same will happen with you and your friend, even if she doesn’t want a pile of mad adventures, you do, and that’s all that counts.

8. The Waiting…

Then when the Birthday does get here, you go to meet up with your friend, and what happens, she isn’t ready. However, even though you’ve been waiting outside for a paltry ten seconds, you distort the truth on the phone. Tracy had a habit of doing this, with poor Cam once again on the receiving end of this tirade. Waiting alone waiting for your friend’s can be a common experience at University.

9. When You Grow Tired of your Friends

Then you get those times when you just look at your friends – and wonder what they’re doing. Now and then it can be time to freshen your act up, and if that involves telling your closest friend that she resembles a constipated elephant… then so be it. Tracy didn’t hold back with Justine, and Louise was unpredictable.

10. When You and Your Best Friend have Different Opinions

There will come a time when your friend starts to become obsessed with someone. You don’t want to be a triumvirate, so instead you do anything you can to keep the friendship just between you and your friend. Tracy was never shy of giving her opinions, and the quote used here could be useful for when your friend fantasises over his or her’s ‘amazing’ smile.

11. The Struggles of Love

Ah, love. There is the old statistic that flies round that suggests the majority of people find their future spouse at University. But it can be tough. When you find that person, you’ll often do anything legally possible to spend time with them. Tracy would often resort to unconventional methods to get the attention of Cam – who was without doubt Tracy’s bae. But it is easy to be too transparent and become clingy… as Tracy found out here, sometimes you just take things too far. There’s a line Tracy.

12. Coping with the Struggle…

Following on from the previous point, you will probably endure your fair share of heart-breaks at University. Sometimes, things just aren’t meant to be. Tracy, at her philosophical best, appeared to appreciate this when she engaged in a DMC with Lol, telling him that her heart was made up of 90% glue. Oh Tracy… It can be a hard life.

13. Coping with the Lectures

Lectures can be tough to sit through – especially the 9am ones. It doesn’t help to think that you’re typically paying around £35 per lecture too, with your tuition fees very high – and not including many things. When lectures have a half-way break, you see the true colours of many students. As Tracy suggests, you have left the lecture at the half-way point on many occasions, so much that a revolving door could be implemented. You try and soldier through though.

14. The Boredom…

Sharing with other student’s can be difficult at times. Sure, you have the good moments, but jealousy can take over when others are out doing exciting things, and you’re staying in doing very little. This usually takes place on a Sunday, when you witness others having their parents come to pick them up. You just sit there, pondering life’s great questions… starting with what food you want in the evening.

15. The Power of Food

As a student you will quickly appreciate the importance of food. For some, it will take over your day. But often, operating on a small budget, you will find yourself hungry. As we identified earlier, there are times when you are angry too. These two areas combined are a dangerous concoction, leaving you hangry. Sometimes you will have taken your anger out on others, when it is your time to face the music, you just want to have food first. Tracy was in a similar position, wanting to have a final meal before what seemed an imminent death thanks to the wrath of Jenny.

16. When you build True Friendships

Returning to the positives, and in keeping with the theme of food, you will build some great friendships. These will hopefully be your friends for life – making the whole University experience worthwhile. Cam and Tracy were the ultimate partnership – they had their ups, they had their downs, but they were a true unit. The friendship was cemented early on when Cam left a cake for Tracy. What a team. Hopefully at University this will prove the case.

17. The Exams…

Fast forward to the end of the year and there are exams. Many students will be sensible and start revision early. However there are always some that leave the revision too late, and, as Tracy is seen in the meme above, resort to last-minute cramming. It could be advised not to follow in Tracy’s footsteps on this occasion.

18. Eventually, It All Works Out!

Yet, eventually the hard work will all be worthwhile. While Tracy never quite reached the dizzy heights of Graduation, she had her good times. And we always rooted for her. As we’ve seen, Tracy had some memorable moments at the Dumping Ground, the same can be said for you at University.
