The good news just keeps arriving in Coventry, with the news that Prince William and Kate Middleton will be visiting the city within the next two weeks. In great news for students, the duo will also be visiting Coventry University – helping to officially open the new Science and Health building at the institution. This caps off several fine weeks for Coventry, ever since being announced as the UK’s City of Culture for 2021. The news was announced via Kensington Palace’s Twitter account, see below.
As you see, the duo will be visiting on the 16th January – under two weeks from now. It marks an exciting moment for the University – whose long-awaited Science and Health Building will get a grand (and Royal!) opening. For the wider Coventry community, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also be visiting the world-famous Coventry Cathedral, as well as the Positive Youth Foundation – which has worked wonders in the local community for many years. This year, January 16 falls on a Tuesday.
Coventry was named the UK City of Culture for 2021 back in early December. Coventry saw off competition from Paisley, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland and Swansea to win the much-coveted title. As seen with Hull, the title can have many benefits to a city, both economically and through tourist visits. The city of Coventry has been celebrating their victory in recent weeks in a range of ways, though this news might just be the most exciting of all. The countdown is certainly on for the people of Coventry!

So now we can look forward to the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It is a rarity for members of the Royal Family to make their way out to Coventry, though this is a sign of how quickly Coventry is developing. Look out for updates closer to the day in terms of timings. But for Coventry University students, there will be a great chance to catch a glimpse of the royals, as the duo open a new building on campus. This exciting day is under two weeks away!
