Following a sexual assault at Ravelin Park, University of Portsmouth, a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape. The attack took place around 7:20pm last Saturday. The suspect, a 51 year-old man, has been released pending further inquiries following questioning. It is alleged that he attacked a 20-year old woman. Hampshire Police, who are investigating the assault, have released some information regarding the assault. The woman was attempting to get away from a man who had approached her on Museum Road, before the assault took place in the adjacent Ravelin Park. The attacker is said to have pushed her to the ground at this point. As mentioned in the introduction, the attack took place at 7:20pm – by which time darkness has fallen, and generally, the road is quiet.
Following the assault, the attacker ran away in the direction of Burnaby Road. Patrols were increased in the local area in the aftermath of the attack.

Hampshire Police have appealed for any witnesses to provide information on the case. However with a 51-year old man having been arrested, the Police will hope to have brought an end to this case. Investigations continue.
