Things were going so well for the University of Reading as they battled to the Final of the Festive Edition of University Challenge, performing well above expectation. Yet all hell appeared to break loose in the final, as our brave warriors went into meltdown mode, being destroyed by Keble College, University of Oxford. Reading lost 240-0. Even those who aren’t a fan of University Challenge don’t need to be told the ramifications of this. Reading were led by Sophie Walker – leader of the Women’s Equality Party. Both teams featured ‘distinguished alumni’. Host Jeremy Paxman didn’t hold back at the end, but at least Reading’s team saw the funny side of conducting the most unsuccessful University Challenge performance ever. Now that the dust has settled, we take a look at Twitter’s reactions to the bloodbath.
