Angel-of-North

Many people talk about the beauty of the South of England – however the North hosts an abundance of amazing locations. Transport is great in the local area, and many of the UK’s most iconic locations are close to Preston. Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle are all easily reached. Consider during your stay to go on day trip’s to these cities – it will be a great decision! The picture above is the ‘Angel of the North’ – a contemporary sculpture found just outside Newcastle – well worth seeing.

2. Utilise the Student’s Union

It is well worth engaging with UCLan’s Student’s Union! The union offers many activites for students to enjoy, and provide general support for students whenever required. The union helps organise a range of societies too, which are great for making friends, developing new hobbies and interests – and most importantly – to have fun. Societies range from being academic-based to hobby-based – there should be something for everyone. It is well worth taking time out in the evenings to recharge your batteries. Trips to other cities for a night-out is possible too!

4. Go To Warehouse Tuesdays

Yes, don’t worry, we didn’t forget it. The quintessential UCLan night-out is a Tuesday visit to Ships and Giggles, before visiting Warehouse. We don’t really need to say anymore other than this is a firm student favourite, and the atmosphere is memorable. How much else of the night will be is down to you… Just hope the timetabling masters are kind to you and spare you the dreaded Wednesday 9am…

5. Learn about Different Cultures!

UCLan features a range of nationalities among both students and staff. This diverse range of cultures is something well worth taking advantage of. When we say this, there is no need to  find two other people, sit on a piece of lawn somewhere and recreate the corny picture seen on every front cover of a University prospectus. Instead, and jokes aside, try and learn about different cultures, try out a new cuisine style, and just generally make friends! The ability of working with people from different backgrounds is an excellent asset to have!
