In this article, we take a look at the most recent update on the attack on Aberystwyth University student Ifan Owens – with some good news coming. Since our last update on the condition of Owens, he has since woken from a coma. This is almost a month after he suffered serious injuries due to an assault. Five people have been arrested in connection with the assault, which took place in the early hours of Sunday 14 January. The latest news has been greeted by well-wishers. Read on for the full story.
Owens was attacked in the early hours of January 14. Owens, a nineteen year old second year Criminology student, was found unconscious at around 2:30am. The attack took place in the Aberystwyth High Street. Owens was taken to the nearby Bronglais Hospital, before the severity of the injury led to his transfer to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales, which he reached at around 5:45am. He remained there in a coma, being treated for life-threatening injuries. Now, he has finally awoken from the coma.
The latest update – revolving around Ifan awaking from the coma – was provided via the medium of Twitter by Gareth Owens – the father of Ifan. His update is seen below, with both Welsh and English translations being provided.

Hopefully, now that Owens has taken a huge stride in the road to recovery, a full recuperation will take place. A crowdfunding campaign set up by the family of Owens has witnessed many kind donations from well-wishers. The Police have also used this news to make a fresh appeal for information. They are particularly keen on speaking to the individual who was on hand to provide first aid to Owens in the direct aftermath of the assault. Of the five people arrested, two are on bail, with three released under investigation. It looks like investigations will continue in the foreseeable future. But overall, this latest update provides some positive news – and Owens has taken a positive stride in a bid to make a full recovery.
