15 Things To Do While at the University of East Anglia

The University of East Anglia (UEA) offers a great experience for all of its students. Hopefully, your time at the University will result in many great memories being created. The East Anglia area hosts many students – making it a great place to study! Your time at the University will fly by – however this article should provide you with some ideas/inspiration to get the most out of your time at UEA! This list ranges from things such as landmarks to see, places to travel to, and of course – graduation! Read on!

 

1.  Explore the East Anglia area!

East Anglia is certainly full of picturesque spots – and is a great location to spend your student years. Over the course of your stay at the University, make sure you leave the realms of the campus and explore some of the towns, and even small villages – in the East Anglia area.

 

2. Utilise the Student’s Union

It is well worth engaging with the UEA Student’s Union! The union offers many activities for students to enjoy, and provide general student support whenever required. There are a range of societies too, which are great for making friends, developing new hobbies and interests – and of course above all else – having fun! Societies range from being academic-based to hobby-based – there should be something for everyone. 3. Enjoy the Nightlife!

UEA is well-renowned for offering a great nightlife for students! There is an abundance of nightspots in the immediate area. Whether bars, pubs or nightclubs are your thing – you can certainly find something! Taking time out in the evening to let your hair down is worthwhile! Mantra, The Birdcage and Norwich Playhouse are just some of the student favourites

 

4. Enjoy LCR!

Fear not – we wouldn’t want to omit the ultimate night out location – the LCR. The classic location for a night out at UEA – the things that go on here may help define your time at the University! The LCR is also well-known for hosting some of music’s biggest names – including these six artists – who you might not have ever realised performed at UEA!

 

5. Learn about Different Cultures!

UEA features a broad international community – both in students and staff. This is something well worth taking advantage of! Try and learn about different cultures, perhaps try out a new cuisine style – you might be pleasantly surprised! The ability of working with people from different backgrounds is an excellent asset to have!

6. Try Out the Sport Facilities

UEA boasts some great sports facilities – as a student here, you should take advantage of them. Whether you are just a casual player playing for fun, wanting to get exercise, or compete for the University – it is something worth trying. For those who do take sport seriously, UEA is part of many BUCS leagues, giving you the chance to compete against other Universities. As mentioned earlier, societies are an excellent way of trying out sports.

 

7. Visit Norwich Cathedral

It’s likely that you will head into the city centre on many occasions – it is definitely worth exploring Norwich Cathedral. The Cathedral was built in the 12th century, and visitors are welcome to explore the building between 7:30am and 6pm. Services are held on the majority of days at the Cathedral too. Certainly one of Norwich’s most iconic sights!

 

8. Go Shopping!

When you have deadlines mounting, and a heavy workload, there is nothing like a bit of retail therapy to boost your spirits! Norwich city centre features many outlets, while Chapelfield shopping centre offers countless shops, cafés and restaurants. We would recommend using a bus to get to the city centre though!

 

9. Try out Cryptic Escape!

Live escape games seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment – with Cryptic Escape offering a great service in Norwich. Locked in a room for 60 minutes – you and your team need to work together to find clues, solve codes and ultimately find a way to escape. Cryptic Escape is located at the Augustine Steward House. A great day out for you and friends.

 

10. Visit the Beach!

Given the location of UEA in England – you should consider at least once visiting the coast during your stay! There are many nice beaches on the Norfolk coast – all of which provide beautiful views! Wells-Next-the-Sea, Holkham and Sheringham are all popular spots, and can be reached by train. Great Yarmouth too is a popular place to visit.

11. Embrace Culture at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts

Free entry, amazing art and culture – right there is an excellent mix for any student. The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is easily reached, and offers a lot of both contemporary and classic art. A must as a student!

 

12. Relax in Green Space!

UEA is well-known to be a very picturesque campus. In the surrounding area, there is a lot of green space locations where you can relax. Earlham Park and Eaton Park are two areas to be recommended. Relaxing in one of these places is perfect after some hard work!

 

13. Visit Other Parts of the United Kingdom!

The United Kingdom features some incredible locations. London is the obvious choice, given the range of landmarks to see, while the likes of Oxford, Birmingham and Bristol are all worth visiting too! East Anglia is in a rather central position – making it also easy to visit northern cities like Manchester or Leeds! There is a lot to see, the UK features some amazing landmarks! 14. Study Hard!

While this isn’t as fun as most of the suggestions in this article – this is still a critical element of University! However, what is most important is to get a good work/life balance. By doing this, you’ll be able to produce your best work! With the University boasting good graduate prospects, your hard work can certainly pay off!

 

15. Graduate!

But above all else – the most crucial thing to achieve as a student at UEA is graduation! This is where all of your hard work over the past fifteen or so years will pay off. It’ll be a proud day for you and your family! Hopefully, on your way to graduation, you’ll be able to complete many of the things in your stay here!
