A student from the University of Hertfordshire has been confirmed dead following a shooting in the early hours Saturday morning (March 17). Two individuals were attacked, with one being shot and stabbed. The attack has been labelled as an ‘unprovoked’ attack. Investigations are underway.
The victim has been named as Russell Jones. Jones was studying at the University of Hertfordshire. His family were notified of his death.
The attack took place in the early hours of Saturday. Jones, and an unnamed friend were victims of an ‘unprovoked’ attack on South Street in Enfield. Four men attacked the duo, before fleeing from the scene. Jones’ friend was injured, and is recovering in hospital.
A University statement said: ‘It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the death of Russell Jones. The University is a close community of students and staff and Russell will be sorely missed. The condolences of everyone at the University go out to Russell’s family.’ Many others have paid their respects.
An investigation into the incident is underway, though no arrests have been made yet. It is likely further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
