UEGG_Banner

Overview: You could be forgiven for thinking that antidepressants are a one size fits-all approach, with any of the modern-day antidepressants working for those who need them. Yet this isn’t the reality. So many people react better with certain antidepressants, and that has left many wondering why. Simply, with everyone’s body and mind different, it is inevitable that some people react to some antidepressants than others. So, what do the statistics suggest – what is the most effective antidepressant? This article delves into the topic.

Research: In early 2018, a study was published by the Lancet which reviewed hundreds of studies into the effectiveness of antidepressants. The compilation of studies also included over 100,000 participants. The compilation of studies helped the researchers create a ranking for the most effective antidepressants. It is important to note that every antidepressant tested was found to be more effective than a placebo – effectively ending the debate on whether or not antidepressants do work or not. But some were more effective than others, as seen below.

Least Effective:

Please note that MAOI’s weren’t included in the study.

This study took hundreds of different studies into account – and therefore appears to be a reliable source for this information. The good news is that every antidepressant tested was more effective than a placebo. This means all antidepressants have the chance to have a positive effect on an individual – it is just that the ones listed as most effective are helpful for the most people. Trying to find an antidepressant that works for you is crucial – unfortunately it can take time to find it.
